Signed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur on Christmas Eve 2002, the 18-year-old Marney made his Swindon debut in a 2-0 away loss at table-topping Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day. For most of his spell at Swindon, he was utilised in a right wing-back role, and Marney impressed the Town fans with his commitment - in his nine appearances, he helped the Town to wins over Stockport, Chesterfield and Tranmere, and an impressive 2-0 victory over Wigan in the return game. After his loan spell ended, Marney was repeatedly linked with a return to the County Ground - especially in late 2004, when Tottenham were due to loan a player to Swindon as part of the deal that took Leigh Mills to White Hart Lane. The move never materialised, and soon afterwards, Marney broke into Tottenham's first team, scoring a brace in a 5-2 win over Everton on New Year's Day 2005. PLAYING RECORD:
