Jimmy ITHELL | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ithell began his career at Bolton in 1936. After the Second World War interrupted his career, Town manager Louis Page persuaded him to join Swindon, on the promise of first team football and readily available housing! Ithell spent two and a half seasons as the regular Town centre half, and though he was an attack-minded player, he scored just once in 107 appearances. An injury during the 1948/49 season saw him lose his place to Garth Hudson, though he returned the following year. After just five appearances, another injury forced him out again - but this time it effectively ended his career. He made just one more appearance, in a 5-0 drubbing at home to Nottingham Forest.
