Ashley WESTWOOD

After it was confirmed that captain Adrian Williams required knee surgery that would be likely to keep him out for the rest of the season, manager Paul Sturrock moved to bring Westwood to Swindon from Chester on a three month loan deal in March 2007, on the same day that Royce Brownlie moved in the opposite direction. Westwood made his debut the next day - failing to impress in a 3-0 defeat at Stockport County, in a match where his central defensive partner, Jerel Ifil, was sent off.

In Ifil's extended absence, Westwood continued to partner Jamie Vincent in the heart of the Town's defence - and though his own absence through injury left the Town with a defensive crisis later in March, he returned in April. When Ifil returned, it coincided with a suspension to full back Jack Smith, and Westwood filled his position up until the final game of the season, when Smith returned, only to hobble off injured in the first half as the Town secured promotion.
