Wells made his first team debut when still a youth team player towards the end of the 2004/05 season in a match at Huddersfield - though it was hardly an ideal situation in which to blood a youngster, with the Town down to nine men after the dismissals of David Duke and Rory Fallon, Wells came on at half-time to replace the injured Grant Smith. With four youth players making their debuts during the game, Swindon lasted until the 62nd minute before the first goal went in, and eventually lost the match 4-0. During the season, Wells was also part of a successful youth side that won both the Alliance South West Conference and the Alliance Cup - Wells himself scoring one of the penalties in the shootout that won the final against Burnley. Throughout the following season, Wells made four substitute appearances for the first team during the final year of his scholarship - before signing his first professional deal at the end of the season, when manager Iffy Onuora offered him a year's contract. Despite this, he didn't feature at all during Dennis Wise's short spell as Town boss - instead, Wise sent him out on loan to Conference South outfit Basingstoke, who he helped reach the Second Round of the FA Cup. When Paul Sturrock took over the reins, he soon recalled Wells from the loan spell to assess him, and he got his first action of the campaign, coming on as a late substitute at Mansfield. It proved to be his last appearance though, Wells being released at the end of the season. PLAYING RECORD:
