Roy WEGERLE

The multinational winger was eligible to play internationally for five different countries - USA, South Africa, England, Germany or Scotland! Wegerle was signed on loan from Chelsea, in a bid to give him first team football during the final quarter of the 1987/1988 campaign. He featured in seven games for Swindon as the club finished in a respectable mid-table position come the end of the season. Wegerle scored one goal for the Town, in a 2-2 draw against promotion-chasing Bradford City at the County Ground in late March.
Wegerle went on to have a successful football career in England with Luton Town, Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers before returning to the USA. He also gained 41 caps for the U.S national team and featured in the 1994 & 1998 World Cup Finals.
