Owain TUDUR-JONES | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A Welsh international midfielder signed on an initial month's loan deal from Swansea City in March 2009 - four years after then Town manager Andy King had attempted to sign him from Welsh Premier outfit Bangor City - Tudur-Jones made his debut at Colchester on the following day, but after making an error that cost the Town a third goal, the game resulted in a 3-2 defeat. Soon though, despite a lack of match fitness, Tudur-Jones' presence in the middle of the park coincided with a run of four wins in six games - the only defeat during this spell being a match at Yeovil that Tudur-Jones missed for an international call-up. When he returned, Tudur-Jones extended his loan until the end of the season, and ultimately helped the Town to pull clear of relegation trouble, not least when he netted a last gasp equaliser at Carlisle from a free-kick. When he returned to Wales, Tudur-Jones' agent admitted that he may be interested in a permanent deal, and the Town agreed a fee with Swansea, believed to be in the region of £250,000. Unfortunately though, Tudur-Jones instead opted to sign for Norwich, and chairman Andrew Fitton spoke of his disappointment at not landing the midfielder, as they had come so very close to capturing him.
