Mark TRAVERS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ireland international goalkeeper Travers made eight appearances for Town in the space of a month at the start of 2020/21. He was one of several to debut in the 3-2 win over Ipswich on Sky, replacing the recalled Matej Kovár, and quickly proved himself to be the competent, commanding goalkeeper that Town fans had been crying out for all season. Signed on loan from Bournemouth until the end of the season, Town had to agree to a 24-hour recall clause in order to secure his loan. Whilst Town’s results didn’t significantly improve with Travers in goal, he gave fans and defenders alike a lot more confidence, keeping a clean sheet against Wigan and reducing Town’s leaky defence to a relatively low 1.5 goals conceded per game. Bournemouth recalled Travers on 11th February, ostensibly because of an injury to Begovic but rumours swirled that Travers had asked to return to Dean Court after clashing with Sheridan - his recall coming directly after fans watching the Town’s match at Portsmouth on the club’s iFollow service had been treated to ninety minutes of Sheridan’s “encouragement” of his side - with no commentary and a microphone close to the Town dugout, the Town bosses’ expletive-laden outbursts drawing surprise even from the opposition. Whatever the truth of the matter, Travers did not make a first team appearance at Bournemouth after his recall. PLAYING RECORD:
