Wes THOMAS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Nomadic striker Thomas was heavily linked to Town long before he eventually joined on loan in September 2015, with Thomas’ then club Bournemouth turning down a bid of around £100k in January of 2014. Eighteen months on, Thomas was a Birmingham player and joined Swindon on loan on transfer deadline day. Handed a debut at Gresty Road, Thomas finished from a tight angle for Town’s second in a 3-1 win over Crewe Alexandra, and then picked up his second Town goal in his fourth game, blasting home from inside the box as Colchester failed to deal with a corner. Unfortunately for him, he limped off injured after 27 minutes of that game and missed the next six weeks with a hamstring strain. On his return to fitness, Thomas was a victim of the league’s loan rules - able to name only five loanees in a matchday squad, Town had contrived to have no fewer than eight in their squad, and with Lawrence Vigouroux, Jordan Turnbull and Ben Gladwin more or less guaranteed selections, Thomas had to fight hard for his last two Town appearances, both of which came in November. When his loan expired in January, he returned to Birmingham and later signed for Oxford United, before scoring a brace against Town for Grimsby in 2018. PLAYING RECORD:
