After being recommended by Peter Reid following a trial at Leeds, Ruster signed for Swindon on a short-term deal in October 2003, after some impressive appearances in the Town's reserve team. Ruster made his debut as a late substitute in a 2-1 home defeat against Stockport on 11th October, after Andy King responded to the fans' cry of "Bring on the Frenchman"! Ruster made just three more appearances for Swindon, the LDV Vans Trophy tie at Boston being his only start, before he was forced to leave the County Ground - when former club Cannes claimed that as he had moved abroad, Swindon owed them almost £300,000 in compensation according to FIFA rules. Ruster returned to France in January 2004, where he eventually signed for struggling French amateur side, ES Fréjus. Shockingly, FIFA upheld Cannes' claim, and ordered Swindon to pay the money for Ruster, even though he had PLAYING RECORD:
