Fabien ROBERT | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
French midfielder Robert signed a one-year deal at Swindon in July 2015 after leaving FC Lorient. It was not his first taste of English football, having made 13 appearances on loan at Doncaster Rovers in 2012 before returning to France, where injuries had restricted his progress. Manager Mark Cooper handed Robert his Town debut as an eleventh minute substitute on the opening day against Bradford City, replacing the injured Jermaine Hylton. Robert contributed well enough in a 4-1 win to make his full debut in the league cup against Charlton three days later. The next week, he had his first Town goal and within three weeks of that, he had three in three games - all neat finishes from good runs into the box. His bright start in a Town shirt tailed off and, whilst he remained a fixture in the matchday squad until April, he scored only once more. After Cooper departed the County Ground, Robert struggled to win the trust of first Martin Ling and then Luke Williams, particularly after the emergence of Ben Gladwin as an attacking midfield option and, after Gladwin’s injury, the loan signing of Michael Doughty. His last Town start came in the 6-0 shellacking away at Scunthorpe in March, and whilst he played once more from the bench, it wasn’t a huge surprise when he left Town at the end of his contract. He was reunited with Cooper at Forest Green Rovers that summer. PLAYING RECORD:
