Ben PURKISS

A highly experienced right back who built a career in non-league before playing in the league for Walsall and Port Vale amongst others, Purkiss joined Town after they were relegated to League Two in the summer of 2017. During his spell at Town, he was elected chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association.

Purkiss made his Town debut away at Carlisle on the opening day, and was involved in all but three of the first 43 league games Town played over the season. He was briefly dropped from the first team after a 5-0 shellacking by Luton at the County Ground on Boxing Day, but returned at the end of January and saw out the season as an unspectacular presence in the right back or as a makeshift right sided defender in a three man defence with Kyle Knoyle or Kellan Gordon at right wing back.

Purkiss was not offered a new contract at the end of the season, and rejoined Walsall on non-contract terms.
