Garry NELSON | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Signed by Ken Beamish in the summer of 1983 from Southend United for £10,000, Nelson was a first team regular throughout his two seasons at the club. His first campaign will be remembered as Swindon’s worst ever league finish, 17th in the Fourth Division. The highlights of the left-winger's season included scoring his first goal for Swindon on his home debut against Chester City, and then scoring twice in a 3-0 win in the return fixture. His final season saw Lou Macari take charge and Nelson only missed three league games in the beginning of a new era at the County Ground, scoring three goals. At the end of the season Plymouth Argyle tabled a £15,000 bid, which was accepted. After leaving Swindon, Nelson played regularly in the Football League right until the mid-90’s and went on to become a best-selling author when his books recalling moments in his career 'Left Foot Forward - A Year in the Life of a Journeyman Footballer' & ‘Left Foot in the Grave’ were released and widely acclaimed by the critics.
