Alan MCDONALD | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A veteran defender when he joined the club, McDonald signed on a free transfer from Queens Park Rangers in the 1997/1998 pre-season, making his debut on an opening day 2-0 win over Crewe, on August 9th. After a great start to the season which saw the Town at the top of the table in November, the last 24 matches brought just three wins. McDonald played a major part in one of them - taking up his place in goal when regular keeper Fraser Digby was sent off. Coincidentally, it was at Q.P.R. where McDonald had been a stalwart, making over 400 appearances - the Town holding on for a vital 2-1 win, and they narrowly avoided relegation. At the end of the season, McDonald hung up his boots, and moved into the backroom staff, but left the club following the sacking of Jimmy Quinn at the end of the 1999/2000 season. PLAYING RECORD:
