Lloyd JONES

An imposing Devonian centre back from the old school of defending, Jones joined Town on loan from Liverpool for the 2016/17 season, one of nine loanees used that year. Jones had previously spent time out on loan at Cheltenham, Accrington and Blackpool.

With Town favouring a three man defence under manager Luke Williams, Jones made his league debut as the left sided centre back alongside Nathan Thompson and Jamie Sendles-White on 20th August against Port Vale, having impressed in the League Cup game against QPR ten days earlier. He made a strong first impression, winning the sponsors’ man of the match award.

In his fourth Town appearance, Jones was one of two Town players sent off in a 2-0 defeat against Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium, receiving his second yellow card for a clumsy foul on Liam Sercombe. After returning from suspension, he scored his first Town goal against Bristol Rovers with a close range header from a corner.

With Town searching for a winning combination, Jones spent time in and out of the team, but was more often in than out until he was arrested on a night out in Cheltenham after Town’s loss at Port Vale in March 2017. He returned to Liverpool shortly afterwards and pleaded guilty to affray, and was sold to Luton Town the following January.
