Former Swansea manager Neil Harris persuaded Scottish international Imrie to join the club when he took over as manager in 1939. He was signed for 800, despite only joining Swansea from Newcastle a year previously for 1,500.

Imrie was one of the three Swindon players killed in action in the Second World War.
