Hallam HOPE | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Former Everton prospect and England U19 player Hope was signed from Carlisle in January 2020 for an undisclosed fee - and despite not being an out-an-out striker, early on he was expected to fill the gap created by the recall of successful loanees Jerry Yates and Eoin Doyle. He scored on his debut in a 3-0 win against Port Vale and started the next three games too, but dropped out of the first team reckoning as both Yates and Doyle returned to Town, making Hope’s role in the team far less clear. After the enforced break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hope and Swindon found themselves in League One. During pre-season, Hope was linked with a move away from Town but started the season as an impact player from the bench, playing 90 minutes only once before November. When employed in his more natural wide forward position, Hope displayed a good work rate but often less skill or clinical finishing than his rivals for those positions. He also filled in as the central striker in the absence of Brett Pitman when required, but the 5’ 10 Hope clearly struggled with the target man role. Town released Hope with his contract expiring at the end of the 2020/21 season, alongside almost all of Town’s out of contract players. PLAYING RECORD:
