Darius HENDERSON | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A targetman signed on loan from Gillingham, Henderson endeared himself to the Swindon fans immediately, scoring two headed goals on his debut, in a 2-1 win at Bristol City on 21st August 2004. He went on to have a very successful loan period, in which he scored a total of five goals in his six appearances. With Gillingham seemingly interested in offloading him, when Henderson returned to Priestfield, Swindon attempted to sign him on a permanent basis - but by then his form had sparked interest from other clubs, most notably Bristol City and his hometown club Doncaster Rovers. After having an initial offer refused, the Town eventually agreed a deal with Gillingham - comprising of an initial £40,000, potentially increasing to £100,000 based on incentives. City and Doncaster dropped out of the race, but still Henderson failed to agree terms with the Town, after it was rumoured that his agent asked for £20,000 to complete the deal. Eventually, after three offers were rejected by Henderson, the deal was called off by the Town board. PLAYING RECORD:
