Bart GRIEMINK

One of Colin Todd's signings for Swindon, Griemink joined from Peterborough on a Bosman free transfer during the 2000/2001 pre-season, after a short loan spell during the 1999/2000 campaign.

Griemink started his first season as the first choice in goal, however, after a number of suspect performances, Griemink lost the goalkeeper's spot to Steve Mildenhall, only regaining it when Mildenhall moved to Notts County. He \rremained as first choice for the next two seasons, and his performances improved - though Andy King was a tad optimistic when he described Griemink as the "best keeper in the division" during 2001/2002.

Whilst Griemink was a good shot-stopper, his distribution and command of his area was lacking, and at times he could \rbe unpredictable. He was also prone to costly mistakes - during the early season slump in the 2002/2003 season, many of the goals conceded were put down to his errors, two clangers dropped against Colchester and one against Mansfield \rwere particularly awful. With King unwilling to risk youngster Craig Farr in goal, Griemink kept his place, and when the Town started winning again, his confidence returned, and his form improved. He went on to miss just two league games \r- King giving Farr his chance in a couple of meaningless games at the end of the season.

When England under-21 keeper Rhys Evans arrived shortly before the 2003/2004 season started, Griemink was widely \rtipped to make way for him, but he surprisingly began the season as first choice - with King quoted as saying he owed \rGriemink "gratitude for his previous performances for the club". Griemink started the first four league games, but after \ra couple of nervy performances, King handed Evans his chance, and Griemink was relegated to the bench for the rest \rof the season. He made just four more appearances for the club, two in cup games, and one as a substitute - his last \rleague start was in a 4-2 defeat at his former club Peterborough in April 2004, with Evans injured, Griemink put in a \rdisastrous performance. At the end of the season, Griemink's contract expired, and with Griemink himself wanting \rfirst-team football, it was a mutual decision not to renew it.
