Zeki FRYERS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Once considered promising enough to make first team appearances for Manchester United, Standard Liège and Tottenham Hotspur, Fryers’ professional career had been heavily interrupted by injuries - nonetheless, his arrival was seen as somewhat of a coup when Town boss Richie Wellens persuaded him to join in June 2019, after his release from Barnsley. When on the field, he looked a classy operator at left or centre back, but those occasions were unfortunately rare - his 25 appearances for the Town in the 2019/20 League Two championship winning season were the most he had ever managed in a full campaign as a professional footballer up to that point. With Town back in League One for the 2020/21 season, Fryers’ injury problems once again reared their head and he was restricted to eleven appearances in two month-long batches at the start of the season and around Christmas. He was released by the club at the end of the season after Town's relegation, and despite previous reports that he was under contract for another year. PLAYING RECORD:
