A sure fire Swindon pub quiz question in future years is “Name the ex-Premier League player whose spell at Swindon lasted less than a month, despite signing a permanent contract?” You might be forgiven for answering with Paul Ince, but Kieron Freeman’s Town career was about a week shorter than the former England man. Most known for a five year spell at Sheffield United, which included both legs of the crazy playoff semi-final against Swindon in 2015, Freeman had left the Blades at the end of the 2019/20 season, having made two appearances in the Premier League and struggled to find a new club before joining Town on 7th January. He made his Town debut against Charlton on the 23rd January and looked some way short of match fitness, was an unused sub against Plymouth three days later and then played the full ninety away at Hull City on 30th January. He didn’t make an especially large impression on Town fans in those games, but clearly someone had spotted Freeman, as Championship playoff contenders Swansea approached Town on transfer deadline day to sign him. Town agreed what was announced as an undisclosed fee, with Jordon Garrick joining Town on loan. It was a bemusing end to one of the shortest Town careers on record. PLAYING RECORD:
