After selling Jan Fjørtoft for a ridiculous £1.3 million at the end of the 1994/95 season, McMahon tried to appease the fans by telling them he had signed a marvellous left back for £340,000 from Newcastle. In truth, Drysdale had never played a game for Newcastle, and it soon became apparent why - he was certainly one of the worst players of the last twenty years - often more a threat to our own goal when attacking than that of the opposition.
