Alberto COMAZZI | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
An experienced defender signed on a two year deal in June 2011, after new Town boss Paolo di Canio managed to persuade his fellow Italian to uproot his family to move to Swindon - describing his new capture as "a natural leader". Originally intended to pair with Joe Devera as the club's first choice defensive partnership, Comazzi missed the first game of the season, when a suspension carried over from a sending off in a minor cup competition in his homeland kept him out. When Aden Flint won the man-of-the-match award in his absence, Comazzi sat out defeat at Cheltenham the following weekend - and though his league bow finally came three days later at Dagenham, it was prematurely ended after just twenty minutes, when he limped off with a pulled muscle. His next appearance came two weeks later, in a 3-1 Carling Cup defeat against Southampton - the following Saturday, Comazzi played again in a televised 3-2 victory over Rotherham, but was rather harshly red carded in the closing minutes of the game, receiving a second booking for a move that could hardly be classed as obstruction. Comazzi made just two more appearances for the Town at the end of September, but it was clear that his style of play and lack of pace didn't suit League Two - and he agreed to terminate his contract in January, di Canio stating that he was sure Comazzi could play two levels higher - but in Italy, not England.
