Sam COLLINS

A central defender signed on a month's loan from Hull, after injury sidelined captain Hasney Aljofree in September 2007, Collins made his debut in a 2-1 win at Millwall at the end of the month, in which he gave a typical tough centre back's display. Collins made it clear that he was looking to possibly clinch a longer term contract at Swindon, and he made two more appearances over the coming seven days - before an abductor injury sidelined him for the majority of his loan period.

Though he only returned to action for one more substitute appearance, both Collins and manager Paul Sturrock appeared keen on making the switch permanent - but any potential deal was scuppered by financial problems caused by the prolonged takeover talks with BEST Holdings. Collins returned to the KC Stadium, still hopeful of a deal - but none was forthcoming, and he eventually signed for Hartlepool United.
