Canice CARROLL

Oxford born Carroll joined the Town on loan in January 2019 from Brentford, as new Town boss Richie Wellens attempted to bring in players to implement his pressing style during the mid-season transfer window. An under-21 international for the Republic of Ireland, Carroll could play in defence or midfield - he played 17 times for the Town, scoring once - and was most frequently utilised as a tough tackling central midfielder.

In the summer after returning to Griffin Park, Carroll was allowed to join Carlisle, and he returned to the County Ground for the Town's opening home match of the 2019/20 season. After entering the fray as a substitute just on the hour mark, he was sent-off within 25 minutes - the home crowd clearly getting the better of him as they taunted him for his Oxford roots.
