A defender signed on a two year deal from league newcomers Morecambe in July 2007, Blackburn was hailed as one for the future by manager Paul Sturrock - and this view seemed to be endorsed on his debut, when Blackburn, chosen as captain of a young Town side, scored twice in a 4-1 Johnstone's Paint Trophy win over Brentford in September. Injury to captain Hasney Aljofree handed Blackburn his league debut at Hartlepool the following week - but in truth, the debut was as good as it got for him - Sturrock soon signed Sam Collins on loan to cover in Aljofree's absence. Though Blackburn was handed another chance in the first team in December under caretaker bosses Dave Byrne and Ady Williams with the Town in an defensive injury crisis, he wasn't to appear at all under new boss Maurice Malpas. After speculation linked him with Forest Green Rovers, Blackburn was allowed to leave on loan for Conference side Weymouth in March for the rest of the season, and after he helped them to avoid relegation by the skin of their teeth, he returned to the County Ground in a bid to save his Town career. Though he scored for the reserves against Bristol City in his comeback game, a fortnight later he came to an agreement to end his two year contract early - and he signed for league newcomers Aldershot Town in May 2008, having played just nine games for Swindon.
