After scoring for Coventry in the 1987 FA Cup Final, Bennett joined Swindon via Sheffield Wednesday, in September 1990 for a fee of £60,000. He played just twice for the Town - after making his debut in a 4-2 win at Oxford, in which the Town had gone 2-0 down in the first five minutes, his second appearance came three days later in a Rumbelows Cup tie at Darlington, when a horrific tackle by Darlington midfielder Gary Gill left Bennett with a broken leg. He was out of the game for over a year. When he returned to action, Bennett was loaned out to Shrewsbury to gain match fitness - where he scored twice in two games - but the curse struck him again in the second match, when he broke his leg again. It proved to be his last game in League football - Bennett eventually joining Nuneaton Borough of the Southern League. PLAYING RECORD:
