Trevor BENJAMIN

After the sale of top scorer Rory Fallon to Swansea City, targetman Benjamin was signed on loan from Peterborough United for the rest of the season, in January 2006. He made his debut as a substitute in a 1-0 win over Walsall on 31st January, but immediately succumbed to a thigh injury, that kept him out of action for almost a month.

He returned for an away match at Nottingham Forest at the end of February - and though he opened his goalscoring account for the Town, it was of little significance - the Town were already 6-0 down when he entered the fray, eventually losing the match 7-1. Benjamin was thrust into the starting line-up for the first time the following week against Tranmere, in a three-pronged attacking line-up with Lee Peacock and Jamie Cureton, but again the Town slipped to a home defeat.

In an oft-changing side, Benjamin found himself in and out of the starting line-up for the rest of his loan period - a hamstring strain keeping him out at the start of April, before he netted his second and final goal in a Town shirt from the penalty spot in a 2-1 win at Scunthorpe. Towards the end of the season, with the Town relegated, manager Iffy Onuora chose to experiment with some of the younger players - Lukas Jutkiewicz keeping Benjamin out of the team - but it looked as though Onuora would sign Benjamin permanently come the end of the season, but any deal was extinguished when Onuora was sacked in May.
