A youth team player who made his Town debut as a late substitute for Theo Robinson in the 3-0 home win over Colchester United in March 2019, Bancroft was offered a professional contract alongside Ralph Graham, Luke Haines and Archie Matthews in May 2019. The attacking midfielder struggled for minutes during pre-season. He scored Town’s final goal in a 6-1 win against Salisbury after coming on as a second half substitute, and was subbed in the first half of a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bristol City. However, Salisbury manager Steve Claridge was impressed enough to take Bancroft to south Wiltshire on loan until January. Bancroft only made a few appearances for Salisbury before having his loan move cut short. Loan moves to Thatcham Town and Wantage Town followed but Bancroft struggled to establish himself in any of his loan moves before the non-league season was voided due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
