Signed on a loan deal until the end of the 2007/08 season, England under-19 international Ashikodi joined the club as part of a double deal that also saw Anthony McNamee come to the County Ground from Watford in January. Ashikodi made his debut as 79th minute substitute in a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest - coming on minutes before Forest netted their second own goal of the game, with Ashikodi lurking. He made his full debut the following week, in a 0-0 draw at Crewe. He continued in the first eleven for the next three games, but failed to make an impression - though he obviously had pace to burn, he rarely looked like finding the net - a feat that he failed to manage in the entire three month loan spell. His time at the County Ground was brought to an abrupt end by a loose screw in his leg, from a break sustained the previous season that required a metal plate to be fitted - Ashikodi returning to Watford for surgery.
