A defensive midfielder who played manager Paul Sturrock at both Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday, Adams once again signed for Sturrock in August 2007, when he joined Swindon on a six-month deal after training with the Town during pre-season to prove his fitness - after his previous campaign was hampered by a persistent Achilles problem. Adams made his debut on the opening day of the season at Northampton, and though he started in the Coca-Cola Cup early the following week, it was a surprise when he was not named in the sixteen for the first home league encounter of the season. Adams' contribution to the first team was restricted to Johnstone's Paint Trophy matches until November, when he played over eighty minutes of a lethargic 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient - and though Sturrock praised his influence, the performance was not enough for Adams to keep his place in the side, though he was named on the bench for the weekend's cup tie at Wycombe - his 90th minute introduction proving to be his final appearance in a Town shirt. A hamstring injury kept him on the sidelines for nine weeks - and by the time he returned to action, Sturrock had left and had been replaced with Maurice Malpas. Despite this, he seemed set for an extended stay at the County Ground, when Malpas offered him a contract to the end of the season - but Adams opted for the security of a longer deal at Conference outfit Torquay, who he joined in January 2008.
