Despite being formed in the same year, Swindon and Doncaster didn't meet each other for eighty years - when the regionalised Third Division was split into Divisions Three and Four for the 1958/59 season, Doncaster joined it by virtue of their relegation from Division Two the previous year. The sides played back-to-back games in March 1959, Rovers winning the first game at Belle Vue on the 27th, and playing out a goalless draw three days later.
