| A little after the event, I know - I didn`t actually make the game, so I listened to it on STFC World - and from the sound of it, we played well up until our second goal, then couldn`t cope with them in midfield.\r\n\r\nA big well done to the commentator - who uttered the immortal line "this has got 2-2 written all over it now", approximately five seconds before their winner went in.\r\n\r\nA couple of thoughts - firstly, it seems pretty obvious to me that we need someone stronger in the middle of the park - Howard is not a central midfielder - when he plays there, he seems to get lost, and as a team, we miss his width and crosses into the box - especially now we have a targetman to get onto them.\r\n\r\nOn other thing on the substitutions, I don`t understand why Kingy took off both Yeates and Howard at the same time - it seemed as though he`d decided to take Yeates off, then Howard took a knock, so they both came off - leaving us with the grand total of zero attacking midfield players who can play us out of trouble, and link with the frontmen. I know we were under the cosh, but you always need someone there who can link with your forward players... if we were really struggling, then leave one up front, and play someone off of him - whacking the ball up to strikers with no-one following up behind is just asking for trouble.\r\n\r\nSo... a frustrating one... and our form is distinctly average at the moment - we need some organisation at the back, and fast if we want to be challenging this season - we`re already nine points off the top spot! |
